Word Problem - UPDATE

Ok. I admit it. I am stuck on an intermediate algebra problem and can't get past it. It's one of those damn word problems and I have to know the answer AND how to do it by Friday. Really, I have to know it by Thursday because I have class Friday and will be at work all day. Enough of that..... Let's get down to it.

The land area of Rhode Island is 5213 sq. mi. less than the area of Hawaii. Together their areas total 7637 sq. mi. What is the area of each state?

I know it's simple. That's the frustrating part. The more I look at it, the more I think, "who needs math?" "really, I can graduate without this class" (which is, of course, not true).

I beg of all my blog-reading friends - PLEASE I IMPLORE YOU!! HELP ME OUT!! Please comment with the answer if you know it and also tell me how to set it up!! Please!! Danny? Josh? C'mon, Stephen? Andrea? DON'T LET THIS BE THE THING THAT RUINS MY GPA!! PLEASE!!

Thanks. Chat soon.

So of course I can't let it go. I finally figured out how to set up the damn thing:

x=RI and X+5213=HI, right?
so therefore, x + (x + 5213) = 7637. Just solve for X!!!!! Thanks for the input, Maggie!

Love you!

xoxo (back to work now)
