Well, well, well. I'm not sure about this dude. He is known as one of the most significant thinkers in the history of Western philosophy; however, his views on women are ridiculous!
Apparently he felt that women were "mistakes" of nature! Can you believe it? We are "incomplete or misbegotten men".
I guess that a great number of philosophers of that time viewed women in a separate place than men. Plato felt that women were "lesser men".
The text we are using for my class encourages, "empathetic understanding before passing judgment on new ideas and those who advocate them", so I guess I'll refrain from any name-calling here.
Damping down my increasing anger, I think I can understand the thinking of those times. The ignorance. They were alive during a hierarchical time, when women were thought of as no more than servants and breeders.
I look forward to studying these ancient (ignorant) famous philosophers; and finding a great female philosopher!
Chat soon.
